TULSA, Okla. - Uril Parrish rushed for a career high 229 yards and two touchdowns to lead Tulsa past San Jose State 34-24 Saturday.

James Kilian threw two touchdown passes as the Golden Hurricane (3-8, 2-5 Western Athletic Conference) moved out of last place in the conference and handed the Spartans their sixth straight defeat.

San Jose State (2-8, 1-6 WAC) failed to rebound from last week's 56-49 double overtime loss to No. 13 Boise State despite getting 164 rushing yards from Lance Martin, his career best.

Parrish's 2-yard score with 3:50 left in the game capped a 15-play, 65-yard drive that secured the win for Tulsa. Parrish rushed for 34 yards on seven carries in the possession.

San Jose State moved the ball to the Tulsa 22 but Jermaine Hope blocked Jeff Carr's 37-yard field goal attempt with 2:26 remaining. The Golden Hurricane then ran out the clock.

Tulsa led 24-21 at halftime behind Parrish's 156 rushing yards before the break. Parrish passed the 100-yard mark less than seven minutes into the game on just six carries.

The Golden Hurricane took a 17-7 lead when Kilian found Jermaine Landrum wide open along the sideline for a 30-yard catch and run in the second quarter, the first of three rapid scoring plays.

Two plays later, Martin rushed 53 yards untouched for a Spartans' TD. On the next play, Spartans' defensive end Tony Ficklin knocked the ball out of Kilian's hands, scooped it up and ran 20 yards for a TD that gave San Jose State a 21-17 lead.

But Parrish scored from the 2 on Tulsa's ensuing drive, a touchdown set up by Brandon Diles' 35-yard catch and run that put the Golden Hurricane on the Spartans' 4. Tulsa never relinquished the lead.
