Softball Signs Four Players to National Letters of Intent

First year head softball coach Christy Connoyer and the Golden Hurricane signed four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.

Tulsa, Okla. - The Christy Connoyer Era for The University of Tulsa softball team started with the Golden Hurricane signing four players to National Letters of Intent. Future freshmen Jessica Barr, Katie Lee and Stephanie Chomicki along with junior college transfer Kelli McGlasson will join the Hurricane squad in the fall of 2005.

A native of Placentia, Calif., Barr is a three-time all-district selection. She led her Valencia High School squad with a .371 batting average and a .987 fielding percentage. The left-handed outfielder won the "Coach's Award" for softball and volleyball, while also earning MVP honors in volleyball as well.

Playing for TeamSmith 18U Gold during the summer, Barr helped lead the team to a 17th place finish at the 2004 ASA 18Gold Nationals. She also led the team in batting average, in addition to topping the squad in hits, on-base percentage and fielding percentage.

"Jessica is a steady player that will bring added consistency to our line-up," said Connoyer. "We are fortunate to have her help continue the winning tradition of Golden Hurricane softball."

Lee is currently a senior at Edmond North High School. She earned first team all-Edmond honors all four-years of her high school career, ending with an All-State selection as a senior. A duo athlete, Lee also earned all-Edmond honors for basketball, twice.

In 2002, Lee threw the school's first no-hitter, as well as broke the school record for strikeouts in a game with 13. She would break that same record a year later with 17 in a game. As a junior she set new season best marks with 263 strikeouts, 210 innings pitched, a 0.83 ERA and 18 wins.

Off the field, she is a member of the National Honor Society and Who's Who in Academics. She plays summer ball for the Oklahoma Jitterbugs.

"Her championship experience, especially in winning the Oklahoma 6A State Tournament title this year, is remarkable," explained Connoyer. "She knows what it takes to win and has the potential to do great things here at Tulsa."

Hailing from Overland Park, Kan., Chomicki is a senior at Blue Valley Northwest High School. A four-year letter winner for the Huskies, she earned a spot on the All-Sun Country First Team and the All-East Kansas League First team as a senior. Chomicki was also named to the St. Thomas Aquinas Early Bird Softball All-Tournament Team in 2004. A three-time winner of the squad's Outstanding Defensive Player Award, Chomicki won the Outstanding Offensive Award in 2004.

A three-sport athlete, Chomicki also earned varsity letters on the basketball and volleyball squads. She was the basketball defensive MVP as a junior and the won the volleyball team's Most Hustle Award as a freshman. Her 80 service aces that year is still a school record.

"Steph is a true student-athlete," remarked Connoyer. "She gets it done, and done well, in the classroom and on the softball field. I'm looking forward to having her as part of the TU roster."

Transferring from Seminole State College, McGlasson posted a .333 batting average for the Lady Trojans. She led the team with 20 walks, while posting the second homeruns with eight. She also ranked third in runs scored with 42 and in stolen bases with 10. A native of Oklahoma City, Okla., McGlasson earned all-state honors in at Westmoore High School.

"Kelli is an incredible defender that will complement our team well," said Connoyer. "She brings top junior college experience with her and will fit right in with our 2005 squad."

The Golden Hurricane is coming off its second 40-win season in three seasons. With a 45-18 record in 2004, TU broke into the national rankings with a No. 25 ranking in the final regular season poll. Over the past three seasons, Tulsa has won 127 contests, ranking 22nd nationally. The Hurricane were also ranked in the top-30 nationally in five team categories in 2005 as well.
