Box Score

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Paul Millsap scored 19 points, including nine down the stretch, as Louisiana Tech won its Western Athletic Conference opener with a 58-52 victory over Tulsa on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (6-4, 1-0) won despite blowing a 14-point, second-half lead.

The Golden Hurricane pulled to within 46-43 with 5:09 to play. Back-to-back steals by freshman guard Brett McDade led to four points and put TU (2-7, 0-1) ahead 47-46 with 4:20 remaining.

But Millsap, last season's WAC freshman of the year, scored off a putback, then sank one of two free throws to give Tech a 49-47 lead.

After TU's Anthony Price tied the game, Daevon Haskins sandwiched four free throws between a Millsap bucket to put the Bulldogs ahead 55-49 with 38.9 seconds to play. TU never got closer.

The Golden Hurricane, which sustained its fourth consecutive defeat, got only eight points from senior forward Jarius Glenn, who entered as the team leader in points and rebounds.

Brian Cardwell contributed career highs in points (7) and rebounds (10), while Price had 10 points and was the lone Golden Hurricane in double figures.

Besides Millsap, who also added 11 rebounds, center Wayne Powell had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who have won five out of their last six.

TU led early thanks to 3-of-10 foul shooting by Tech, but the Bulldogs took the lead with 9:34 left in the first half on two free throws by Michael Wilds.

Tech built leads of eight points three times and led 29-23 at the half.
