Dyer Earns First WAC Pitcher of the Week Award

Denver, Colo. - Louisiana Tech's Jessica Elson and Tulsa's Lindsey Dyer have been named the Western Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Both are earning their first player of the week honors. This is only the second player of the week ever for Louisiana Tech.

Jessica Elson, a freshman from Plano, Texas, (Plano HS), led Louisiana Tech to a 4-2 record and a second place finish at the Mississippi State Round Robin last weekend. Elson earned all-tournament team honors, batting .500 with 10 hits in 20 at bats, while scoring six runs and driving in six runs. Elson led Louisiana Tech with hits (10), total bases (11) and was second in runs (6) and RBI (6). The second baseman also had a perfect fielding percentage for the tournament.

Dyer, a junior from Sand Springs, Okla. (Charles Page HS), picked up her first victory of the season by striking out eight New Mexico State batters and allowing no walks in six innings of work. The Golden Hurricane finished tied for second at CentruyTel Bobcat Classic in San Marcos, Texas.

Other player of the week nominees included: Jiliane Hartfiel, Nevada and Julie Shafer, Tulsa.

Other pitcher of the week nominees included: Shannon Tabion, Hawai'i; Marla Pinkston, Louisiana Tech and Judith van Kampen, Nevada.
