Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team scored three unanswered runs in the final two innings to defeat Oklahoma State, 3-2, in a non-conference game at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex on Wednesday night. The win was the fourth for the Golden Hurricane in 20 contests against the Cowgirls.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, TU was sparked by a lead off home run by sophomore Katie Torres. It was the seventh home run of the season for the Del City, Okla., native, who also leads the team in runs batted in (24) and runs scored (23).

Freshman Lindsay Galloway opened the bottom of the sixth inning with a double, for the second time in the game. It was a feat TU repeated a total of three times in the contest, as senior Heather Hiar led off the first inning with a double as well. Junior Holly Reynolds reached safely on a throwing error by Stephanie Nicholson at shortstop. The error allowed Galloway to advance to third and the speed Reynolds to advance to second. Hiar then hit the game-winning single up the middle allowing Galloway and Reynolds to score the tying and go-ahead runs, respectively.

Tulsa was able to over come some early game offensive woes. The Golden Hurricane left the bases loaded in the first and second innings, after leading both stanzas off with doubles. The leadoff hitter reached base in every inning for TU during the game, recording five hits and one walk. Four of those five hits were for extra bases. For the game, TU left nine runners on base.

The Cowgirls scored first with a run in the fourth inning, as Nicholson scored on a bases-loaded infield single by Lauren Kitchens. OSU scored its second run after Crystal Lee's one-out triple in the fifth inning. She scored two pitches later on a passed ball. The Cowgirls also left nine base runners stranded in the game, including the tying run at second base and the go-ahead run at first in the seventh inning.

Sophomore Maren Genow picked up her 10th win on the season, pitching the final two and two-thirds innings in relief. She gave up only one hit while striking out two. Freshman Julie Fennell started for the Hurricane and struck out four Cowgirls in four and one-third innings. She also walked three and was saddled with two earned runs.

Hiar and Galloway both recorded two hits apiece for the Hurricane as Tulsa posted seven hits. OSU out-hit the Hurricane, 9-7, marking only the 10th time in 36 games that TU has been out hit this season. The game was also the second time this season that TU won, despite being out hit by its opponent.

Tulsa (24-12) will open Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday, as the Golden Hurricane hosts Louisiana Tech. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex.
