Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball head coach James Pinkerton will be a celebrity coach at the 2004 Second Chance Celebrity Softball Game on April 30. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the All Star Sports Complex at 61st Street and Hwy 169.
Admission is free to the light-hearted game and is sponsored by LifeShare-Oklahoma. Free pizza and sodas will be provided following the event, which hopes to promote organ donation. Teams will consist of transplant patients, radio personalities and doctors. Local personalities such as Casey Norton and Rick wells from KOTV, Kelley Cash and Tom Carey from K95.5, Jerry Ostroski and Chris Plank from 1430AM "The Buzz" will be in attendance. The Akdar Shrine Clowns will also be on hand for the event.
"Agencies such as Second Chance and LifeShare are very important to me and my family," said Pinkerton. "A few years ago, I had a player whose sister was on a waiting list for a heart transplant. I was able to see what she and her family went through during the process. The joy and jubilation I saw in her family after the surgery will make me forever grateful for agencies such as this. If it means that another family is going to be able to feel that same joy and jubilation, then I will do anything I can to make it happen."
LifeShare works hard to provide education to the state of Oklahoma about organ, eye and tissue donation. Education is provided to medical professionals who identify and care for potential organ and tissue donors, and recognize donation as continuing to care for the patient and their family.
