Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa Head Basketball Coach John Phillips announced today the signing of Deion James from Brewster (N.H.) Academy to a national letter-of-intent. He will have four years of eligibility with the Golden Hurricane.

James, a 6'1", 180-pound point guard from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, averaged 17.5 points and four assists in leading his team to a 22-6 record, a runner-up finish in the State Prep Class A Championship and a final national ranking of fourth among prep schools.

A two-year starter, James was named to the all-New England Prep Class A team in 2004. He was also a 2004 McDonald's All-America Nominee and was named to the 2004 National Prep School Invitational all-tournament team.

Before attending Brewster Academy, James attended Milwaukee Vincent High School. In 2002, he was invited to the Nike All-American Camp and was selected to the 2002 Adidas Big Time all-tournament team.

"Deion has demonstrated great maturity and leadership ability. We believe that he's a guy who can come in and really help us at the point guard position," said Phillips. "Everyone we have talked to about him has talked about his leadership abilities. He is an extremely hard worker and is team-oriented in everything he does."

"Without question Deion is the most competitive player that I've ever coached. He's a very tough player and has a great work ethic," said Brewster Academy Head Coach Jason Smith. "Deion gets to the basket well. He is an excellent leader on the court and he will challenge his teammates to play well every possession."

James is the third signee for the 2004-05 season for Tulsa. He joins junior college transfers Yusuf Baker and Vernell Davis, both 6'8" forwards.
