Fresno, California - Tulsa used some solid pitching and a big inning in each of the two games on Saturday to win both contests against the nation's 14th-ranked Fresno State Bulldogs. With the two wins, Tulsa improved to 43-17 overall and 14-5 in Western Athletic Conference play, while the Lady Bulldogs dropped to 46-17 and 19-3 in league play.

In the two wins, the sixth inning proved to be something special for the Hurricane. Tulsa scored 10 runs combined in the top of the sixth inning against the Bulldogs.

In the first game, sophomore Maren Genow pitched almost flawlessly as the Golden Hurricane came away with a 7-1 victory against the league leader. Genow did not allow a hit until the fifth inning, and gave up just three hits in seven innings.

The Hurricane took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as leadoff hitter, senior Heather Hiar singled to left field, and scored from third base on a wild pitch. It was the sixth inning, though, that proved disaster for the home team as Tulsa scored six runs on five hits. Holly Reynolds began the inning with a walk, and ended the inning on a ground out as Tulsa batted through the order. Scoring for Tulsa in that inning was Reynolds, Hiar, Katie Torres, Kelly Miller, Julie Shafer and Stephanie Sliepen

Fresno State scored its lone run in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Tulsa had six hits for the game.

In the second game, Fresno State scored two runs off of junior Ami Day in the first inning, but from that point Day allowed no runs and just three hits in the next five innings. Trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning, Miller and Day each reached base on an error, while Shafer walked. Freshman Lindsay Galloway cleared the bases with a grand slam to give the Hurricane a 4-2 lead. Day pitched a hitless sixth inning, and was relieved by game one winner, Genow, after allowing the first batter in the seventh inning to single. Genow retired the next three batters.

Tulsa closes out the regular season this week with five games. The Hurricane will play a non-conference game against Oklahoma on Tuesday and will host WAC foes San Jose State on Thursday and UTEP on Saturday in doubleheaders. Tulsa defeated the nationally-ranked Sooners earlier this year in Tulsa, 2-0. The Hurricane also swept two games each from both San Jose State and UTEP.
