Softball Wins Pair at Hurricane Fall Classic

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball squad won two more fall exhibitions on Sunday afternoon with a 6-0 win over Neosho County CC and a 9-0 win over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at the Hurricane Fall Classic.
Tulsa jumped out early against NCCC, by scoring five runs in the first inning. Senior Stacey Walkingstick opened the inning with a single through the left side. Junior Julie Shafer and senior Stephanie Sliepen walked to load the bases with no outs. Sophomore Lindsay Galloway's two-run single scored Walkingstick and Shafer. Junior Kelly Miller's second double of the fall plated Sliepen and Galloway. Freshman Sara Dyer also doubled in the inning to score Miller.
Sophomore Julie Fennell and senior Lindsey Dyer combined for a one hitter, by allowing only three Panther runners. Fennell pitched the first two innings, striking three of the six batters she faced. Dyer struck out seven Panthers in her five innings of work.
Four Hurricane hitters recorded two hits in the game, as TU pounded out 11 total hits. Walkingstick, Sliepen, Sara Dyer and freshman Lindsey Tower finished with two hits apiece.
Tulsa continued the hot hitting in its second contest, as the Hurricane recorded 12 hits against the Lady Norse as well. Walkingstick again led off with a single then scored on a sacrifice fly by Sliepen.
The Hurricane blew the game open with seven runs in the second inning, as TU recorded eight consecutive base runners. Tower got the ball rolling with a one-out single to center, then scored on a double by Walkingstick after she stole second base. Shafer singled and Sliepen walked to load the bases. Miller recorded her second double of the game to clear the bases. Following a single by Sara Dyer, Miller scored from third on a single by Galloway. Galloway and the younger Dyer scored on a bases loaded single by sophomore Angela Osbon.
Junior Maren Genow picked up her first win of the fall by striking out five Lady Norse hitters in three innings of work. Senior Ami Day worked the final two innings, allowing only one walk and striking out one NEO batter.
Tulsa will conclude its fall schedule on Sept. 25 at the Oklahoma Shootout, held at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla.
