Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa Head Basketball Coach Doug Wojcik announced today the signing of Jamel McLean to a national letter-of-intent.

McLean, a 6'8", 225-pound forward from Hampton, Virginia, averaged 11.5 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots his junior season at Bethel High School. He helped lead his team to the Eastern Regional Tournament in the Virginia State playoffs last year.

Jamel is a very skilled post player. He can step out and shoot the basketball, as well as score with his back to the basket. Jamel has long arms and has a great body at 225-pounds as a high school senior. He's very versatile," said Wojcik. "He comes from a very competitive high school in the Chesapeake Bay area. He also played on a very prominent Boo Williams AAU team."

"Jamel is a great kid. He has a great personality and great smile. He's a very positive person who is full of energy. We're very fortunate to have signed him," added Wojcik.

McLean had an outstanding summer playing for the Boo Williams AAU team, one of the top AAU programs in the country. He has received a three-star rating from Rivals.com.

"I'm excited about coming to continue my education and basketball career at Tulsa and hope to help turn the program around and get it back to where they once were," said McLean.

McLean chose Tulsa over Pittsburgh. Other schools that recruited him included Boston College and Miami (Fla.).
