Tulsa, Oklahoma - Brian Cardwell, a 6'10 sophomore, has informed Interim Head Coach Alvin "Pooh" Williamson of his intentions to leave the basketball team and withdraw from The University of Tulsa.

Cardwell played in 42 career games since joining the Hurricane last year following a professional baseball career. In 17 games this season, he averaged 2.1 points and 2.8 rebounds in 11 minutes per game.

"I appreciate the opportunity The University of Tulsa has given me. Coach Williamson and the coaching staff have been good to me. This is just a personal decision that I've decided not to continue with my education and athletic career," said Cardwell. "I wish my former teammates the very best."

"We wish Brian success in his future endeavors. This is something that he's decided is in the best interest for Brian Cardwell, and we respect his decision," said Williamson.

Cardwell, 24, played four years of professional baseball in the Toronto Blue Jays organization before enrolling at Tulsa in August 2003.
