Softball Splits on Second Day of Bulldog Classic

Starkville, Miss. - The University of Tulsa softball team split a pair of games in the Mississippi State Bulldog Classic on Saturday. The Golden Hurricane defeated Tennessee Tech, 1-0, before falling to the host Bulldogs, 4-2 to conclude the day's festivities.
Sophomore Lindsey Galloway provided TU with all the offense it needed with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning against TTU. Junior Katie Torres recorded two hits for Tulsa, while freshman Lindsey Tower, freshman Sara Dyer and senior Holly Reynolds also posted hits.
Senior hurler Lindsey Dyer struck out six Golden Eagle batters in six innings of work for her third win of the season. Dyer did not give up a walk while scattering six hits. Junior Maren Genow pitched a perfect 1-2-3 seventh inning to notch her eighth career save. Genow now owns sole possession of the career save record at TU.
The Hurricane out hit the Bulldogs, 5-4, in the night cap, including a pair of hits by Galloway. Senior Stephanie Sliepen, sophomore Angela Osbon and Tower also recorded hits for Tulsa. Mississippi State was able to take any early lead on TU once again with a run in the bottom of the first inning.
The Bulldogs closed out is scoring with three runs in third inning for a 4-0 lead. Tulsa tried to rally with a run in the fifth inning and another run in the seventh inning, however TU stranded the tying run on base when the game ended.
In the fifth, Galloway led of the inning with a double to left center. Sliepen followed with an infield single. Galloway scored from third on a sacrifice fly from Osbon. Galloway then led the seventh inning off with a single to right field. Following a fielder's choice and a single, Tulsa loaded the bases with one down. Sliepen scored from third on a sacrifice fly by junior Julie Shafer.
Tulsa is scheduled to play Troy at 10 a.m. and Tennessee Tech at 12 p.m., however a rainy forecast on Sunday may cancel the day's play. The Golden Hurricane return to the friendly confines of the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex next weekend for the Holiday Inn Select-Tulsa Festival, Feb. 25-27.
