Tulsa's Doug Wojcik completed his first recruiting class.

June 29, 2005

Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa Head Basketball Coach Doug Wojcik officially announced today that Bishop Wheatley, from Cedar Hill (Texas) High School, has signed a scholarship agreement with the Golden Hurricane.

Wheatley originally signed with Howard University, but has been granted a release from his letter-of-intent. He will be eligible immediately at Tulsa.

A 6'6", 215-pound forward, Wheatley was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter at Cedar Hill High School. In his three years as a starter, he helped guide his team to an overall 93-12 record.

As a sophomore, his team compiled a 33-3 record and a year later posted a 35-2 mark while losing in the Texas Class 5A State Championship game. This past season Cedar Hill posted a 25-7 record.

"Bishop was our only starter back on this year's team, and he took over a leadership role. He's the type of player that you may not notice during the game, but by the end he'll have totaled 18 points and nine rebounds," said Cedar Hill Head Coach David Milson.

Wheatley averaged 15.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.2 steals in his senior season. He also shot 58-percent from the field and 81-percent from the free throw line.

Wheatley was ranked among the top-130 seniors in the state of Texas, as he earned a ranking of No. 53 by TexasHoops.com.

He earned all-district and all-region honors in each of the last two seasons, while being named to the all-state team as a junior as well. Wheatley averaged 12.2 points his junior season. He was an honorable mention all-district performer in his sophomore season.

"He plays above the rim. He's a great leaper and quick jumper. Bishop is a good scorer from inside 15-feet and is a tremendous defensive player. He's smart on the floor and understands the game defensively," added Milson.

"Bishop is very typical of the power forwards in the recent past of Tulsa basketball. He reminds me of a Kevin Johnson type," said Wojcik. "He is a very good low post scorer, sealer and defender. Bishop is a well-conditioned athlete who can rebound the ball. With the addition of Wheatley, Tulsa now has a full limit of 13 scholarship players including eight newcomers. Among the incoming players, there are six high school signees and two junior college transfers. Three of the six prep seniors are from Texas, and each of the three are ranked among the state's top-60 seniors by TexasHoops.com.
