Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa second-year Head Women's Soccer Coach Rena Richardson welcomed a total of 21 players, including six newcomers, to the TU campus on Wednesday and the Hurricane opened its 2005 preseason camp with the first of seven two-a-day practices.

The Hurricane hit the pitch Wednesday morning for a 9:00 a.m. practice and returned at 3:00 p.m. to close the first dual practice day. TU spent the morning session testing its fitness with one vs. one drills and competitive games. The Hurricane scrimmaged during its evening practice.

"I thought we had a great first day of practice," Richardson said. "The players were very excited, energetic and ready to get started. This team has a lot of unity and I believe they were happy to be back together again. They are a very confident group."

"I was very happy with the overall fitness of the team and I really liked the energy. I think it all goes back to their offseason conditioning and their commitment to summer training. Our team captains, Carrie Schnarre and Krista Barker, have shown great leadership skills during the offseason and with team organization, which has translated into great standards and high expectations for this year's squad," Richardson added.

The Golden Hurricane returns 15 letterwinners, including seven starters, for the 2005 campaign. Tulsa will open the season at home against Southeastern Conference member, Arkansas, at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26 at the Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium.
