Santa Barbara, Calif. - Junior Julie Fennell had a no-hitter going through the first four innings, however the Golden Hurricane could not finish, as The University of Tulsa softball team fell, 6-2, to Long Beach State on Saturday afternoon during the Commercial Capital Invitational.
Fennell struck out seven 49ers on the day, including five in the first four innings. LBSU blew open a scoreless contest with a pair of runs in the fifth inning, added three more in the sixth and another insurance run in the seventh.
The Golden Hurricane posted eight hits on the game, including a pair of hits from senior Katie Torres and junior Lindsay Galloway apiece.
"We moved the ball around against a very good pitcher today," said TU skipper John Bargfeldt. "Julie pitched well, especially in the beginning of the game. We just were not able to put everything together at the right times today."
Tulsa (4-2) will conclude the tournament on Sunday with an 11:00 a.m. contest against the host Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara.
