Box Score

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team recorded a season-high 14 hits, including a pair of home runs to finish off a pesky North Texas team, 7-2 in the championship contest of the Holiday Inn Select-Tulsa Festival.

TU scored early, with a solo home run by senior Julie Shafer. It was the fifth time the Hurricane scored in the first time, and the fourth win. Tulsa has scored first in nine contests this season, winning eight of them.

The Hurricane scored again in the second, as freshman Jessica Barr opened the stanza with a double to right center. She would later score on a two-out double by junior Lindsay Galloway. The third inning also produced a run for TU when sophomore Sara Dyer singled through the left side then stole second with two outs on the board. Junior Kelli McGlasson scored Dyer with a single up the middle to give TU a 3-0 lead.

Senior Maren Genow was near flawless through the first three innings in the pitching circle for TU, as she allowed only one hit and one walk during the span. In the top of the fourth, the Mean Green finally started to hit Genow's offerings. UNT led off with a double, followed by a one-out single, followed by a fielder's choice to load the bases gave the Texans their biggest threat. However, Genow struck out the next two batters in six pitches.

The bottom of the fourth was a big inning for TU as well. Junior Angela Osbon led off with a homer down the leftfield line. It would be the first of six hits in the inning for the Hurricane as eight of the nine TU batters reached base at least once in the inning. Senior Julie Shafer also posted a two-run triple, then scored the Hurricane's fourth run of the stanza on a single by fellow senior Katie Torres. The inning gave TU a 7-0 lead heading into the top of the fifth inning.

North Texas would get a pair of home runs from Susan Waters and Kristina Fowler in the sixth inning, but could get no closer as Genow picked up the complete game victory.

Tulsa will continue its home stand next weekend by hosting the Best Western Airport Festival at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex, March 3-4.
