Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team will hit the ground running to start the 2006 season, by opening at the Getterman Classic in Waco, Texas. The round-robin event features four teams, including Baylor, Illinois, Wichita State in addition to TU.

Baylor is coming off a 51-14 season while hosting an NCAA Regional in 2005. The Fighting Illini finished last year's campaign with a 24-26 record after playing in an NCAA Regional in 2004. Wichita State posted a 46-18 record, while earning a spot in an NCAA Regional for the first time in the program's history in 2005.

The Golden Hurricane will open against the Shockers at 10 a.m., followed by a game against the host Bears at 3 p.m. on Friday. Saturday's play begins with TU facing Illinois at 10 a.m., with Tulsa ending the day against WSU at 5:30 p.m. Tulsa's final day on Sunday has the Hurricane playing Illinois at 11 a.m. and Baylor at 3 p.m.

Tulsa enters the year riding a nine-game winning streak from 2005, helping the Hurricane make a mad dash for a third place finish in the Western Athletic Conference. TU is a member of Conference USA, where the league coaches predicted it would finish sixth in 2006.

If the prediction is true, TU will have a chance to prove the coaches wrong at the end of the season, as the Hurricane will play host to the C-USA Championship Tournament. The top six teams in the league standings at the end of the regular season will be invited to the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex on May 11-13 for a double-elimination tournament, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
