Memphis, Tenn. -- The Tulsa men's basketball team opens play in the Conference USA Championship presented by Aeropostale on Wednesday afternoon.
Tulsa comes into the 2:35 p.m. game as the No. 6 seed against the No. 11 seed Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
Tulsa leads the overall series 2-1, winning each of the last two meetings.
"We have the utmost respect for Southern Miss.," said Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik. "We were fortunate to win earlier this season. Southern Miss is athletic at all five positions and are coming off a win against East Carolina where they scored 74 points.
"Our two teams are pretty evenly matched when you look at the statistics. The points per game, shooting percentages and rebounding stats are pretty close," added Wojcik.
The Hurricane won the only meeting this season between the two teams, with a 72-63 victory at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. In that game, Tulsa shot 50-percent from the field, 40-percent from three-point range and 82-percent from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Brett McDade led the Hurricane with 18 points, followed by Anthony Price with 15 points.
The winner of this game will play #3 seed UTEP on Thursday at 2:35 p.m. UTEP is one of the top four seeds that received byes, including #1 Memphis, #2 UAB and #4 Houston.
