Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa Golden Hurricane captured a 1-0 victory over Houston on Saturday to advance to the Conference USA Championship game. Tulsa will play Marshall at 2:30 p.m. today, at the Donna J. Hardesty Complex.
There were only three hits in the game, as Tulsa senior pitcher Maren Genow threw the one-hit shutout. Houston's lone hit in the game came in the fourth inning by Jessica Valis.
Genow threw 91 pitches and three strikeouts en route to a 15-9 record, while Houston's Angel Shamblin to 16-10.
The Hurricane scored the game-winning run on two-out infield hit in the third inning by Kelly Miller to score Jessica Barr.
"We were fortunate to hang on against a great hitting team that Houston has. It was important to get that one run early on the board, but then you almost think is it too early? Maren pitched a great game. She hit all of her spots and got a lot of easy outs. She didn't have a lot of strike outs but she came up with a key one there in the bottom of the sixth inning."
Marshall advanced to the Champioship Game on Friday with a 1-0 victory over Tulsa in the winners bracket. Marshall leads the season series 3-1, as the Thundering Herd took two of three from the Hurricane in Huntington, West Virginia, April 22-23.
