Tulsa Remains Perfect at Home With Doubleheader Sweep of ECU

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team won its eighth and ninth straight home games on Saturday, with a doubleheader sweep of East Carolina, 5-2 and 8-4, on Saturday. A crowd of 326 at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex witnessed the Golden Hurricane also improve its home winning streak to 11 straight games. Tulsa improves to 20-15 on the season, 7-4 in Conference USA play. ECU falls to 23-15 on the season, 4-4 in league play.
Freshman Kelly Chapman was the big bat for the Hurricane in the first game, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Her two-run double in the third put TU up 3-0. Sophomores Lauren Lindsay and Christian Timmons, along with seniors Sara Dyer and Lindsey Tower and juniors Kailey Yarmer and Brooke Smart also added to Tulsa's eight hits in the contest.
Freshman Jordan Kinard picked up the win in the pitching circle for TU, in a complete-game effort. She struck out five Pirates in her sixth complete game of the season.
Sophomore Vanessa Vice led TU with a pair of hits in the nightcap, while Yarmer hit her first TU grand slam. Timmons, Dyer, Tower and junior Stephanie Chomicki also posted hits for the Hurricane. Sophomore Jackie Lawrence recorded her ninth win of the season, pitching the first five innings and striking out five. Junior Katie Lee held the Pirates scoreless over the final two innings, for TU.
The two teams will conclude their three game series on Sunday with a single game at 12 p.m.
