Tulsa Women's Soccer Team Falls, 4-1, to UTEP

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa women's soccer team opened up the 2008 Conference USA season against UTEP tonight, dropping a 4-1 decision, at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Miners moved to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in C-USA, while TU fell to 5-4-1 on the season and 0-1 in the league.
Cortney Casey put the Miners on the board in the 24th minute from 18 yards out off a pass from Cara Nordin, and Brandi Aston gave UTEP a two-goal cushion at the 37:42 mark to head into the break.
In the second half, Emily McElrath pulled the Golden Hurricane to within one as she scored off a diving header from inside the box, with Jennifer Kacergis picking up the assist.
Less than two minutes later, the Miners' Brittany Vacca scored from 20 yards out, and with less than five minutes remaining, Nordin scored from 10 yards out for the 4-1 victory.
"We dug ourselves a hole in the first half and we couldn't get out of it," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "We played better in the second half, but we half to figure out a way to play hard and smart for a full 90 minutes. I think UTEP is a solid team, but the score was not indicative of the game tonight."
The Miners out-shot TU, 10-9, and had a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Kendall Harclerode logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up three saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 28th against Colorado College. Game time is set for 12 noon at the Hurricane Stadium.
