Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa announced today that senior Bishop Wheatley will miss the first four games of the 2009-10 basketball season for the Golden Hurricane. Wheatley totaled 14 minutes in two exhibition games in November of 2006, then red-shirted the remainder of the season due to an injury.

According to NCAA legislation, Wheatley's participation against outside competition (two exhibition opponents) during the 2006-07 academic year was not permissible since he went on to red-shirt that season.

The NCAA ruled in November 2007 that Wheatley be withheld from the first four regular season contests of one season during the balance of his collegiate career. The University chose to take this suspension during the 2009-2010 season.

"This was a compliance oversight and in no way was the fault of the student-athlete. It's extremely unfortunate that Bishop must miss four games due to this misinterpretation of the rule," said Tulsa Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham.

The 6'6" forward will miss Friday night's season opener against St. Mary's, as well as home games against FIU, UALR and South Alabama. He will be eligible to compete against Loyola-Marymount on November 24th.
