TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa senior shortstop Kailey Yarmer was named Conference USA Softball Hitter of the Week by the league office Monday after batting .600, with two home runs, two doubles, five RBI and three runs scored at the Texas A&M Aggie Classic over the weekend.

Yarmer went 9-for-15 in five games last weekend at the Aggie Classic, and accounted for eight of her team's 18 runs scored in those games. She went 4-for-4 in Tulsa's 3-2 victory over fifth-ranked Texas A&M on Saturday, and drove in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning. In the team's first game of the season against Texas-San Antonio, she went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

In the final game of the weekend against Prairie View A&M, Yarmer went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, one RBI and two runs scored. In the second game against UTSA, she homered in the sixth inning to give the Golden Hurricane a two-run lead at 3-1. This is the first career weekly honor for Yarmer.

"It was good to see Kailey get off to a good start," Tulsa Head Coach John Bargfeldt said. "She has been working hard, staying later to get in extra hitting every day. She is the first to practice every day, on her own, to get extra work in. When athletes do that, it's great to see it pay off. That is what I am most proud of, for her."

At the Aggie Classic, Tulsa went 2-2, splitting the matchups with Texas-San Antonio and Texas A&M. The Golden Hurricane won the first game against UTSA 4-3 in eight innings, then lost 8-0 to Texas A&M in five innings. On Saturday, TU lost a late lead to UTSA and fell 4-3, before avenging Friday's loss to Texas A&M with a 3-2 victory by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the No. 5 Aggies. On Sunday, in a game that was separate from the tournament, senior pitcher Katie Lee threw a no-hitter as Tulsa beat Prairie View A&M 8-0 in five innings.

Tulsa returns to action this weekend at the UC Riverside aTen Construction Tournament, and plays Friday at 11 a.m. CT against Colorado State and at 1:30 p.m. against San Diego. The Hurricane also plays UC Riverside Saturday at 4 p.m. and Colorado State at noon Sunday.

The 2009 Tulsa Select Festival will be held Feb. 20-22 at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex.
