Softball's Swanson Named C-USA Hitter of the Week

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball freshman Skylar Swanson batted .529 with two home runs and nine RBI in six games last week and was named Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Swanson was 9-for-17 with nine RBI and four runs scored, plus two home runs and a double. She had three multi-hit games, and for the week, recorded a .941 slugging percentage and a .529 on-base percentage.
"I saw her swing the bat well earlier in the season, and it was good to see her really put it together this weekend," Tulsa Head Coach John Bargfeldt said. "She showed some power early, and has really been doing a nice job for us this year."
Most of Swanson's production came during Tulsa's three-game C-USA series sweep at Memphis, where she was 6-for-8 (.750) with two homers, nine RBI and four runs. She also had 12 total bases, a 1.500 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage during the weekend.
On Saturday alone, Swanson went 5-for-5 with eight RBI, three runs, and two dingers. The first was a three-run shot in the second inning of game one. The homer in the second game also came in the second inning, and was a two-run bomb that was followed the next inning by a two-RBI single. Swanson also went 3-for-4 with a double in the win at Centenary. Swanson shares the honor with Houston's Laurie Wagner.
Tulsa went 5-1 on the road last week, losing at 16th-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette, 6-0, before beating Centenary, 6-2, Louisiana-Monroe, 3-0, and sweeping the Conference USA series at Memphis, 9-1 (6 inn.), 10-0 (5 inn.), and 11-2 (5 inn.).
The Golden Hurricane returns home this week as it plays host to Oklahoma State Wednesday at 7 p.m., and Marshall is a C-USA series this weekend.
