NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team dropped a 3-2 contest to North Dakota State on a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday afternoon at the OU Softball Complex.

Tulsa (39-16) will play Oklahoma Saturday evening in the double-elimination regional. First pitch is scheduled for 6:50 p.m., against the Sooners, who eliminated Arkansas Saturday afternoon, 21-2.

Down 1-0 and down to its last out in the top of the seventh inning, nine-hole hitter Skylar Swanson singled up the middle. Junior right fielder Lauren Lindsay then took a 3-1 pitch just over the left field wall to give TU a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, after two ground outs, the next two NDSU hit infield singles to put runners on first and second. Bison first baseman Melissa Chmielewski hit a double down the right field line, scoring the two base runners. The play at the plate was close, and the runner, left fielder Elisa Victa, had to scamper back and safely touch the plate.

"You won't experience a loss much tougher than that, going from the highs to the lows" Tulsa Head Coach John Bargfeldt said. "The thing I told the girls is to give credit to the ones that stepped up in big situations. I told them there's a lot of luck in this game. We get a bunt that stays on the line forever and rolls foul. They get a two-out, two-strike trickle down the third base line that stays fair to stay alive. I felt like we made great pitches, but I felt like there was some luck involved. We hit two balls off the top of the fence. There were just some things that didn't go our way today. I commended the girls for playing a great game."

The loss breaks an 11-game winning streak for the Golden Hurricane. Junior Jackie Lawrence (21-5) absorbed only her fifth loss of the season, allowing three runs, one walk and striking out four.

Junior right fielder Lauren Lindsay broke the school record for career runs scored with her home run in the seventh. She has scored 126 runs in her career.
