TULSA, Okla. - The 2010 Tulsa softball season begins in one month, and the Conference USA Preseason All-Conference team was released today as seniors Jackie Lawrence, Lauren Lindsay and Vanessa Vice were all named to the squad, the league office announced.
The three seniors were selected to the all-conference teams last season, as Lawrence and Lindsay were named to the All-C-USA First Team and Vice was named to the second team after leading the Golden Hurricane to the 2009 C-USA regular season and tournament championships.
"This is a very deserving honor for three senior leaders for our program," Tulsa head coach John Bargfeldt said. "They have been instrumental throughout their careers in helping build the program to what it is today. We are looking for their leadership this season to get us where we want to go."
Lawrence finished the 2009 season with a 21-6 record, a 1.67 ERA and a .188 opponent batting average in 31 appearances and 27 starts. A member of the 2009 C-USA Championship all-tournament team, she pitched 24 complete games, eight shutouts, struck out 186 batters, and allowed just 45 earned runs and 70 walks in 188.2 innings. She currently ranks third in school history in career wins and is one of only four pitchers in TU history to record at least 400 career strikeouts, 450 innings pitched and 40 wins.
Lindsay, also an NFCA All-Midwest Region selection and the C-USA Championship MVP, completed the 2009 campaign with four single season school records and set the career record with 129 runs scored. Her .406 batting average, 49 runs scored, 76 hits and .486 on-base percentage all set single season school records. She also hit 19 doubles and nine home runs, tallied 39 RBI, slugged .652 and struck out only nine times. Already one of the best hitters in TU history, Lindsay ranks second on the career charts in doubles, home runs and RBI, as well as third in total bases and walks. Her career batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage currently rank as the best in school history.
Vice is a three-year starter and also a member of the 2009 C-USA Championship All-Tournament team. She finished last season with a .326 batting average, the third year in a row she has hit over .320 for the season. She recorded 58 hits, 25 RBI, nine doubles and 15 walks, scored 19 runs, and averaged a .381 on-base percentage. She ranks among the top 10 in school history in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and walks.
The Golden Hurricane opens the 2010 season Feb. 12-14 at the BYU Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah. TU then travels to the Baylor QTI Getterman Classic Feb. 19-21 before opening its home schedule with two weekend tournaments. The Hurricane plays host to the Tulsa Embassy Suites Invitational Feb. 25-27 and the Tulsa Embassy Suites Festival March 5-7 at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex.
