Tulsa Post-Game Quotes vs. Tulane

Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik:

Opening Statement...
'We are 1-0 in conference play and I'm pleased with that. It wasn't our best outing of the year, but we played very good defense particularly on their guards Kevin Sims and Kris Richard, who are their best two players. We rebounded the ball very well. I thought Ben Uzoh was absolutely terrific. He was a first-team all-league player tonight. He really pushed [the ball] and did quite a bit for us.'

Importance of winning the conference opener...
'You have to win it. We don't have an easy schedule with us playing six of the top seven teams on the road. At this stage in the game, we have 17 games left and seven are at home and 10 are on the road. We have to win at home.'

Junior Justin Hurtt

On not having beaten Tulane previously...
'Coach [Wojcik] placed a big emphasis on the fact that we hadn't beaten them in the last three years. The whole time we had been talking about how we had to come out strong.'

On this being a must-win game...
'We wanted to come out and start the [conference] season right, especially here at home. We know we haven't lost any games at home. That's our strong point. Now we need to go to Houston and get a road win.'

Tulane Head Coach Dave Dickerson

Opening Comments
'All hats off to Tulsa. We lost to the best team in the conference and probably one of the better teams we've played all year, and we've played a difficult schedule. [Coach] Doug [Wojcik] has done a tremendous job of getting good players here and should be proud of the team he put on the floor tonight. They really played well and this was the first team we've played all year that has really exposed our weaknesses as a basketball team.'

On Ben Uzoh...
'He's a good kid. It seems like he's gotten better ever year in the conference. I've seen him from his first year and he seems very confident. He's got great size. He could be the best player in the conference.'

On TU's defense against Tulane's offense...
'It's no secret that Tulsa has always been a great defensive team. We have had success against those guys the last three times coming into this game, but [in those games] we had really good matchups against them versus tonight we had no matchups against them.'
