Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa Head Basketball Coach Doug Wojcik announced today the signing of Plano (Texas) High School senior Rashad Smith to a national letter-of-intent, it was announced today on the first day of the November signing period.

Smith, a 6'7", 195-pound forward, is entering his third season as a starter at Plano High School. He has been rated as high as the 19th best senior prospect in the state of Texas by TexasHoops.com.

Last year, Smith averaged 12.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 blocked shots, while shooting 49.3-percent from the field. He earned first-team all-district honors in his junior campaign. In his sophomore season, Smith scored at an 8.8 clip and pulled down 7.1 rebounds, while shooting 47-percent from the field. Smith was named as the District Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore.

"We're excited to have Rashad join our basketball family. He is an extremely athletic player with excellent skills. He runs the floor well and has the ability to play multiple positions. Additionally, Rashad is wise beyond his years. He displays confidence, personality and responsibility. When combining his physical gifts with his maturity you have something special," said Wojcik.

"Rashad is a very athletic wing player. He has very long arms, very lengthy and has a chance to be a great defender at the next level," said Phil Parlin, Plano High School's head coach. "He has played the wing position the last two years. In the past we've played him on the perimeter, but now we'll play him a little bit more in the post. We're going to get him on the blocks at the power forward position to take advantage of his quickness.

"He definitely has the ability to play the three position at the next level. Taking the ball to the basket and finishing it at the rim is one of his greatest assets, and he has really improved his perimeter jumper, which will make him tougher to guard," added Parlin.

Smith and his Plano High School teammates open the 2010-11 season against Garland Naaman Forest High School on Nov. 16th.
