STILLWATER, Okla. - Lauren Lindsay went 2-for-2 with a home run and Christian Timmons drove in three runs to lead The University of Tulsa softball team to a 6-2 win over Oklahoma State Tuesday evening at Cowgirl Stadium.
Junior Jordan Kinard (4-2) pitched a complete game for the Golden Hurricane (12-9). Oklahoma State fell to 15-6 with the loss, and Cowgirl starter Anna Whiddon (11-3) got the loss.
Kinard scattered eight hits, walked just one and struck out three in the winning effort.
Tulsa got on the board first with two runs in the first inning. Center fielder Caitlin Everett led off the game with an infield single to second base, and Lindsay followed with a double to right field. Shortstop Samantha Cobb drove home Everett with a sacrifice fly to left field, and Timmons hit a two-out single to left field, scoring Lindsay.
Oklahoma State got one run back in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff double, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single in succession.
Tulsa extended its lead back to two runs in the fifth inning when Lindsay blasted her 10th home run of the season over the center field fence.
TU took a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth on designated player Lauren Menke's RBI single. Second baseman Skylar Swanson led off the inning with a walk and Timmons singled. Left fielder Jessica Stoelke laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners, and Menke drove Swanson home with a base hit into center field.
The Cowgirls scored one more run in the sixth on a solo home run.
The Hurricane added two more runs in the seventh inning, both scoring on an error by the third baseman. Mickey LaValley, pinch-ran for Lindsay, who led off the inning with a walk, and first baseman Vanessa Vice hit a one-out single through the left side. After Swanson reached on an error, Timmons hit the ball to third base, as the error allowed two runs to score.
The Golden Hurricane opens Conference USA play this weekend when it travels to UAB for a three-game set. The series begins with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and concludes with a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
