TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team dropped a 3-1 decision to ninth-ranked Oklahoma State Wednesday evening at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex.

The Golden Hurricane (22-17) returns to Conference USA action this weekend as it plays host to Houston. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. and is televised by CBS College Sports. The series concludes Sunday with a single game at noon.

First baseman Vanessa Vice singled and scored, and catcher Christian Timmons, left fielder Mickey LaValley and designated player Skylar Swanson each has a hit for the Hurricane.

Freshman Kalynn Schrock (7-5) absorbed the loss for TU after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing seven hits, three earned runs, four walks. She struck out seven batters. Senior Jackie Lawrence threw two shutout innings of relief, allowing just one hit and one walk, and striking out two batters.

"We went up against two experienced pitchers that have some excellent pitching stats against some very tough competition," Tulsa head coach John Bargfeldt said. "We knew that weren't going to get a whole lot of opportunities off of them. They did a good job. A couple balls that we hit hard just narrowly missed - one going foul, and the shortstop made a couple of nice plays. We had a couple of opportunities, but in a game like this, you're not going to get that many. Then, I felt like we contributed to their runs a little bit. They scored all their runs with two outs, and we helped out a little bit with some freebies. The bottom line is they played a little better than we did. They executed and got a few more opportunities and a few more hits, and we didn't play quite good enough to deserve to beat a team with pitchers of that caliber and a team of that caliber. We just didn't get it done tonight."

Oklahoma State struck first with one run in the first inning. The Cowgirls got an RBI single up the middle following a pair of two-out walks.

Tulsa responded in the bottom of the second with a run to tie the score. Vice hit a one-out double to right center and Timmons reached on a bunt single. The pitcher made a wayward throw to first base on the play, allowing Vice to score from third and Timmons to advance to second. TU was unable to keep a rally going, and the score stood tied at 1-1.

OSU scored two more runs in the fourth inning, providing the difference in the ballgame. The Cowgirls got three singles to load the bases, two of which came with two out, and a walk and wild pitch allowed the two runs to score, giving OSU a 3-1 advantage.

The Golden Hurricane managed two more hits, but could not get anything going on offense, and fell, 3-1.
