TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa shortstop Samantha Cobb hit .600 with three home runs and 11 RBI in TU's three-game sweep at Marshall last weekend, and was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The freshman from Garland, Texas, went 6-for-10 at the plate with three home runs, including her fourth grand slam of the season, drove in 11 runs and scored five runs. All in all, she accounted for 13 of the Golden Hurricane's 24 runs scored in the series. She also walked twice, and had a 1.500 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage.
"Cobb had a great weekend," Tulsa head coach John Bargfeldt said. "She seemed very relaxed, and it was great to see her get back into the confidence level she was playing at for most of the regular season. She came up with some big hits. She has done a great job of making other teams think twice about not pitching to Lauren (Lindsay)."
With 11 RBI during the weekend, Cobb now has 53 for the year, shattering the Tulsa single-season RBI record previously held by Sara Dyer, who drove in 48 runs in 2007.
In game one Saturday, Cobb went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two home runs - including the grand slam and another two-run blast - and scored three runs. The six RBI tied a school single game record. In game two of the doubleheader, she got an RBI single, scored a run and walked once in three at-bats. Sunday, Cobb went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a two-run single and a walk.
Second-seeded Tulsa opens the 2010 C-USA Softball Championship Thursday against No. 7-seed Memphis at 11 a.m.
Tickets for all Tulsa softball home games are $6 for adults and $4 for youth. Tickets can be purchased at the TU Athletics Ticket Office, by calling 631-GoTU (4688), or at the gate.
