Softball's Vice Named C-USA Hitter of the Week

TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa senior first baseman Vanessa Vice was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week after hitting .750 and reaching base in eight of 10 plate appearances in TU's three-game series against UTEP, the league office announced Monday.
The senior from Sachse, Texas, went 6-for-8 over the weekend, with two doubles, three runs and two walks. She also played errorless defense at first base, leading the Golden Hurricane to a 2-1 series win over the Miners.
"This is a very deserving honor for Vanessa," Tulsa head coach John Bargfeldt said. "She's been hitting the ball well for a while, and she put a great series together this weekend."
In Sunday's home finale, Vice went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. In game one Saturday, she singled and walked twice in three plate appearances, and in game two belted a pair of base hits and drove in a run for the Golden Hurricane.
Vice leads Conference USA in hitting in league games with a .388 batting average, and her .331 overall average ranks 10th in the conference. She also ranks eighth in the league with a .419 overall on-base percentage. Not only does Vice lead the league in batting average in C-USA games, she ranks third in on-base percentage (.483) and sixth in slugging percentage (.510) in 17 conference games.
Since March 23, Vice leads TU with a .468 (29-for-62) batting average with six doubles, 13 RBI, 13 runs, nine walks and a .548 on-base percentage.
Tulsa closes out the regular season this weekend when it travels to Marshall for a three-game series against the Thundering Herd. The Conference USA Softball Championship will take place May 13-15 in Houston.
