HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Freshman Samantha Cobb went 2-for-3 with four RBI, and Caitlin Everett went 2-for-4 with two runs to lead The University of Tulsa softball team to 7-4 win at Marshall Sunday afternoon at Dot Hicks Field.

The Golden Hurricane (31-20, 14-6 C-USA) completed the three-game sweep of Marshall after winning, 11-1, and, 6-2, Saturday, marking its first three-game sweep of a league opponent this season. TU won six of the seven C-USA series it played this season.

Tulsa wrapped up the No. 2 seed in next week's Conference USA Softball Championship. The tournament will take place May 13-15 in Houston.

Cobb hit a two-run home run, her 15th of the season, and hit a two-run single in the game. Everett had a pair of singles and scored twice. Third baseman Cassidy Bowen and second baseman Skylar Swanson also homered for Tulsa. First baseman Vanessa Vice also had two hits and an RBI Sunday.

Freshman Kalynn Schrock (10-5) earned the victory for Tulsa, allowing 12 hits and one walk, but just four runs with six strikeouts. Marshall's Katie Murphree (15-18) took the loss, throwing 2.1 innings and allowing three hits, two runs and a walk with three strikeouts. Caitlyn Jackson pitched 4.2 innings, allowing eight hits and five runs for Marshall.

"It's good to get a sweep, our first this year," Tulsa head coach John Bargfeldt said. "It's a good time to get one, going into the conference tournament. We talked about keeping our momentum going, and we did that this weekend. The girls did a good job of being determined and focused, and doing what they needed to do."

For the third time in the series, Tulsa got on the scoreboard in the first inning, and for the third straight game, Everett led off with a single. She then stole second, and scored on Vice's base hit to left center.

The Golden Hurricane took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Swanson smashed her second home run of the season to left field.

TU put up two more runs in the third inning on Cobb's two-run blast to left. Right fielder Lauren Lindsay, who had led off the inning with a walk, scored on the homer.

The Hurricane was held scoreless for the first time in the game in the fourth inning, and Marshall scored its first two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth. The Thundering Herd got a double and single to lead off the inning, and both runners scored on a two-out double down the right field line by first baseman Melanie Stoehr.

For the first three innings, Schrock held off the Herd, and although it got three hits, was unable to get past second base.

Tulsa added two more insurance runs in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Cobb. Jackie Lawrence, who was the designated player for the game led off with a single through the left side - her first base hit in seven at-bats this season. Mickey LaValley pinch ran, and moved to third on consecutive singles by Kelly Chapman and Everett. Chapman had subbed at second base for Swanson in the third inning. Lindsay then hit into a fielder's choice to first, and the run was cut off at the plate. Cobb then ripped a bases-loaded single to center field, scoring Chapman and Everett.

The Hurricane put up one more run in the top of the seventh on Bowen's solo homer to left. It was Bowen's fourth home run of the season.

With the drop-dead time approaching due to TU's travel plans, Marshall got four hits and a walk, to plate two runs and make the score 7-4, Tulsa. However, game officials stopped the game at the drop-dead time with two outs on the board.

"Kalynn did a great job for six innings," said Bargfeldt, "other than that one mistake she made on the double. I chalk up (the seventh inning) to her rushing a little bit. We were getting close to the drop dead time, and I think she was kind of hurrying her pitches, trying to get through the inning. I was rushing too, calling pitches."

TU takes a four-game winning streak into the conference tournament next week. Details of Tulsa's game times and opponents for the 2010 C-USA Softball Championship will be announced when it is available. Ticket information is available at www.conferenceusa.com.
