Tulsa Plays Host to SMU Wednesday

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa basketball team returns home from a two-game road swing to play host to SMU Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

After playing both games on the road last week, the Golden Hurricane (10-9, 2-2 C-USA) is playing the first of a two-game homestand, and its first of the season against SMU (11-8, 2-3 C-USA). The game will also be broadcast on the Golden Hurricane Radio Network, which in Tulsa is KRMG AM 740/102.3 FM. Live video and audio will also be available via Hurricane Vision on www.tulsahurricane.com.

Tulsa averages 71.6 points per game while allowing 68.8 points per game. The Golden Hurricane shoots 44 percent from the floor and allows opponents 42 percent shooting. TU out-rebounds foes, 36.7-32.2 rebounds per contest. The Hurricane also shoots 36 percent from three-point territory and has a .718 free-throw percentage.

Four TU players average more than 10.0 points per game this season. Justin Hurtt ranks second in C-USA and ranks 17th in the nation with 20.3 points per game. Steven Idlet averages 13.6 ppg, Scottie Haralson averages 12.2 ppg and Jordan Clarkson averages 10.3 ppg. Idlet shoots 51 percent from the floor, and Hurtt averages 43 percent from the floor and 88 percent shooting from the free throw line. Idlet and Joe Richard lead TU with 6.6 and 6.1 rebounds per game, respectively. Hurtt leads the Hurricane with 51 assists (2.7 apg), while Pope has 38 assists (2.0 apg) and Clarkson has 29 assists (1.9 apg).

SMU averages 67.9 points per game and 27.8 rebounds per game. The Mustangs shoot 49 percent from the field, have a .406 three-point percentage, and .756 free throw percentage. SMU opponents average 62.5 points per game, a .431 field-goal percentage, .405 percent from long range, and 31.2 rebounds per game. The Mustangs are led in scoring by forward Papa Dia, who averages 17.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game, and shoots 60 percent from the field. Forward Robert Nyakundi averages 16.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.3 apg, and has made 47 percent of his three-pointers. Guard Rodney Clinkscales also averages 8.3 ppg.

This is the 39th meeting between Tulsa and SMU. The Golden Hurricane leads the series 27-11. Tulsa has won the last 10 games, all coming under Doug Wojcik as the Hurricane head coach. The Hurricane has won these games by a 7.4 average. Tulsa won both games a year ago with a 58-55 win in Tulsa and a 63-56 victory on the road. Tulsa has posted an overall 11-4 mark in home games against the Mustangs.
