Tulsa Opens Charleston Classic Thursday

The Golden Hurricane opens the Charleston Classic at 11:30 a.m. CT Thursday against Western Kentucky.

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Tulsa basketball team takes on Western Kentucky at 11:30 a.m. CT Thursday to open the DIRECTV Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant at TD Arena.

The game between the Golden Hurricane (2-0) and Hilltoppers (1-1) will be televised on ESPN3.com and broadcast on the Golden Hurricane Radio Network. Fans should note that the radio broadcast in Tulsa will be on KAKC AM 1300, while the other stations on the radio network will remain the same. ESPN3 is an Internet-only telecast that can be accessed via ESPN.com.

Tulsa will play its first contest away from home after winning a pair of games last weekend over UALR, 65-49, and Southeastern Louisiana, 67-52, in the Reynolds Center. Western Kentucky defeated Tennessee State, 52-49, on Monday after falling in its season opener, 72-61, to Saint Joseph's.

The Golden Hurricane is averaging 66.0 points per game and shooting 44 percent from the floor. TU is out-rebounding its opponents 47.0 to 27.5 through its first two games. TU has allowed its opponents 50.5 points and a .316 shooting percentage from the field.

Senior Steven Idlet is leading the Hurricane with 15.0 points per game and averages 4.5 rebounds per contest. Sophomore Kodi Maduka leads TU with 10.5 rebounds, and is one of four players scoring at least 9.0 points per game. Junior Scottie Haralson averages 11.0 points and sophomore Jordan Clarkson has put up 9.5 points per game. Sophomore Tim Peete has dished 3.5 assists per contest.

Western Kentucky has averaged 56.5 points and 39.0 rebounds, shooting 32 percent from the floor. The Hilltoppers have allowed 60.5 points, 32.0 rebounds and a .442 shooting percentage to opponents. Freshman guard Derrick Gordon leads WKU with 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

The winner of the TU-WKU game will face the winner of the LSU-Northwestern game at 2:30 p.m. CT on Friday, while the losers of each opening contest will face off at noon CT on Friday.
