Tulsa Drops Overtime Thriller at Missouri State, 69-64

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Jordan Clarkson scored 23 points, including 17 in the second half and overtime, but it was not enough as Tulsa fell in overtime, 69-64, at Missouri State Saturday evening at JQH Arena.

Kodi Maduka tallied a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Golden Hurricane (4-3). Caleb Patterson scored 19 points and was one of three players in double figures for the Bears (4-0).

MSU's Anthony Downing made a three-pointer to tie the score with four second left to send the game into overtime. The Bears made three three-pointers and outscored the Hurricane 13-8 in the extra period.

The Hurricane overcame a six-point halftime deficit and an eight-point deficit in the second half to take the lead late in regulation.

TU trailed 37-29 with 14:22 left in the game, but slowly dwindled the deficit to four points with 9:01 left. The Hurricane trailed 41-37 after a 5-2 mini run over five minutes.

Tulsa cut it to two points with a Clarkson jumper in the paint, and after falling behind by four points again, took its first lead of the second half at 44-43 on a 16-foot jumper by Clarkson. TU took a 47-44 advantage on a Haralson three-pointer with 4:53 left.

After an MSU free throw, TU went ahead four points when Clarkson hit a three-pointer while falling down backwards as the shot clock expired.

Missouri State took a two-point lead again after a pair of three-point plays that each featured a layup and ensuing free throw. Tulsa took the lead again on a Haralson three-pointer with 1:38 left and extended its lead to three points when Maduka made three of four free throws in the final 17 seconds, sandwiched around a single MSU free throw. Maduka's second set of makes came with 8.7 seconds remaining in regulation.

Missouri State made three-pointers in its first two overtime possessions, while Tulsa put in layups by Maduka and Clarkson. Maduka made two free throws to tie the score at 62 apiece and Joe Richard put back a layup off of a missed free throw to give the Hurricane a two-point, 64-62, lead with 1:42 left in overtime.

Missouri State scored the next five points on a three-pointer, fastbreak layup off of a steal and a pair of free throws to win, 69-64.

Tulsa held Missouri State to 35 percent shooting in the first half, but the Bears forced 12 turnovers in the opening period. TU limited MSU to nine points off turnovers, and shot 33 percent from the field. Missouri State scored 22 of its 26 first-half points in the paint.

The Golden Hurricane travels to Stillwater to take on Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
