HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Tulsa basketball team is in Huntington, W.Va. to take on Marshall in a key Conference USA game at 6 p.m. CT on CBS College Sports.
The Golden Hurricane (15-11, 8-4 C-USA), winners of five of its last six games, and three of its last four road games, is just one-half game out of first place. Marshall (18-9, 6-6 C-USA), meanwhile, has won three in a row and five of its last seven games.
The Golden Hurricane Club is having a watch party at Fair Meadows Sports Grill in Tulsa. The game will also be broadcast on the Golden Hurricane Radio Network, which in Tulsa is KRMG AM 740/102.3 FM. Live audio will be available via Hurricane Vision on www.tulsahurricane.com.
Tulsa averages 71.1 points per game while allowing 67.8 points per game. The Golden Hurricane shoots 44 percent from the floor and allows opponents 42 percent shooting. TU out-rebounds foes, 37.5-31.3 rebounds per contest. The Hurricane also shoots 36 percent from three-point territory and has a .693 free-throw percentage.
Four TU players average more than 10.0 points per game this season. Tulsa is the only C-USA school with four players among the top 30 in scoring in the league. Justin Hurtt leads C-USA and ranks 24th in the nation with 20.1 points per game. Steven Idlet averages 12.3 ppg and Scottie Haralson averages 11.9 ppg, while Jordan Clarkson averages 10.6 ppg. Idlet shoots 52 percent from the floor, Hurtt averages 84 percent shooting from the free throw line, and Haralson has a .395 three-point percentage and a .829 free-throw percentage. Idlet and Joe Richard lead TU with 6.7 and 5.8 rebounds per game, respectively. Hurtt leads the Hurricane with 65 assists (2.5 apg), while Pope has 63 assists (2.4 apg) and Clarkson has 46 assists (2.1 apg).
Marshall averages 73.1 points per game and 37.9 rebounds per game. The Thundering Herd shoots 45 percent from the field, has a .334 three-point percentage, and .670 free throw percentage. Marshall opponents average 66.2 points per game, a .406 field-goal percentage, .289 percent from long range, and 34.0 rebounds per game. The Herd is led in scoring by guard DeAndre Kane, who averages 15.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Forward Tirell Baines, averages 12.0 ppg and 6.8 rpg, and shoots 51 percent from the floor. Guard Damier Pitts averages 15.1 ppg and 2.5 apg.
This is the 11th meeting between Tulsa and Marshall. The Golden Hurricane leads the series, 7-3. All 10 meetings have come as members of C-USA, and since 2006. TU has won five of the last six games in the series. The two schools split the regular season meetings last season, with TU claiming a, 73-69, win in Tulsa and Marshall taking a, 64-58, win in Huntington. The Hurricane took an, 80-64, win over Marshall in the 2010 C-USA Tournament quarterfinals. In Tulsa's seven wins, the margin of victory has been 13.1 points. TU is 1-3 vs. Marshall in Huntington.
