Softball Plays at Houston in Big C-USA Series

The Golden Hurricane plays at Houston this weekend in a big C-USA series, beginning with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. The series will conclude with a single game Sunday at noon.

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa softball team is on the road at Houston for a big Conference USA series against the Cougars in a matchup of the second and third place teams in the league standings at Cougar Softball Field. TU and Houston will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at noon.

The second-place Golden Hurricane (32-9, 13-2 C-USA) is two games ahead of the third-place Cougars (29-13, 11-4 C-USA), and both squads are statistically two of the top hitting and pitching teams in C-USA. Tulsa is hitting .286 (302-for-1057) with 165 RBI, 189 runs, 53 doubles, six triples and 23 home runs, and has a .412 slugging percentage and a .356 on-base percentage with 111 walks. The Hurricane has a 1.71 team ERA with 338 strikeouts, 125 walks, 169 hits, 82 runs and 67 earned runs allowed, and has a .175 opponent batting average.

Houston hits .283 (297-for-1051) with 184 RBI, 212 runs, 37 doubles, six triples and 49 home runs, and has a .469 slugging percentage and a .371 on-base percentage with 141 walks. The Cougars have a 1.26 team ERA with 371 strikeouts, 106 walks, 158 hits, 78 runs, and 50 earned runs allowed and a .163 opponent batting average.

Tulsa is led in hitting by sophomore center fielder Caitlin Everett who is hitting .372 (48-for-129) with 23 runs, 16 RBI, a .426 slugging percentage and a .438 OBP. Senior first baseman Kelly Chapman is hitting .348 (31-for-89) with 16 RBI, 22 runs, eight doubles, four homers a .573 slugging percentage and a .433 on-base percentage. Sophomore shortstop Samantha Cobb hits .331 (41-for-124) with 30 RBI, 22 runs, nine doubles, three homers, 14 walks, a .476 slugging percentage and a .394 OBP. Junior second baseman Skylar Swanson hits .300 (24-for-80) with eight doubles, five homers, 22 RBI and 17 runs scored, along with a .588 slugging percentage and a .406 OBP.

In the circle, freshman Aimee Creger is 15-1 with a 0.95 ERA in 110.0 innings, and has allowed 41 hits, 20 runs and 15 earned runs, with 173 strikeouts and 48 walks. Senior Jordan Kinard is 8-4 with a 1.92 ERA and has allowed 64 hits, 27 runs and 24 earned runs, with 100 strikeouts and 32 walks in 87.2 innings. Sophomore Lacey Middlebrooks is 9-4 with a 2.56 ERA in 76.2 innings, and has allowed 64 hits, 35 runs and 28 earned runs, with 65 strikeouts and 45 walks.

Tulsa and Houston have played 14 times; Houston leads the series, 8-6. All of the games have been played since 2006. Tulsa won both games of the series last season in Tulsa, 8-4 and 7-1 and the Cougars won both games in 2009 in Houston, 4-0 and 7-0. The third game of each series was rained out. TU is 0-5 vs. UH in Houston.
