Chapman Home Run Pushes Tulsa Past Memphis, 2-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Senior first baseman Kelly Chapman hit a solo home run in the eighth inning and Jordan Kinard struck out 11 batters to lead the Tulsa softball team to a 2-1 game two win (8 inn.) over Memphis Saturday afternoon at the Tiger Softball Complex.
Chapman's homer broke a 1-1 tie that had stood since the first inning. Kinard (6-4) pitched a complete game, striking out 11 batters and scattering five hits with zero walks. Lauren Carley took the loss after pitching 2.2 innings in relief.
Tulsa and Memphis each scored one run in the first inning and did not touch the plate again until Chapman's homer in the extra frame.
Sophomore center fielder Caitlin Everett led off the game with an infield single to shortstop and scored two batters later when sophomore shortstop Samantha Cobb doubled down the left field line.
Memphis scored in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Maddie McKinley, plating shortstop Heather Mott, who led off the inning with a single.
The Golden Hurricane got 10 hits in the game and had other opportunities to score, including at least one runner in scoring position in each inning, but was not able to push any more runs across the plate.
