Softball Plays Host to Southern Miss in StrikeOut Cancer Event

Senior Lauren Menke and the Golden Hurricane play host to Southern Miss this weekend. TU will wear pink jerseys for Saturday's doubleheader for the StrikeOut Cancer event.

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa softball team is home for a Conference USA series for the first time in three weeks as it plays host to Southern Miss for a three-game set Saturday at Sunday at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex. The teams play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at noon.

Tulsa will wear pink jerseys for Saturday's doubleheader as part of the NFCA StrikeOut Cancer event to benefit the American Cancer Society. TU will raffle a team-autographed jersey to one lucky fan for $1 per chance. After the second game, kids will have the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs from the Hurricane players.

The Golden Hurricane enters the weekend at 29-9 overall with a 10-2 record in C-USA play, while the Golden Eagles are 11-24 overall with an 0-9 mark in league play. Live video via Hurricane Vision and live stats via Gametracker for all three games will be available at www.TulsaHurricane.com.

Tulsa is hitting .279 (273-for-977) with 145 RBI, 165 runs, 48 doubles, six triples and 20 home runs, and has a .402 slugging percentage and a .353 on-base percentage with 107 walks. The Hurricane has a 1.64 team ERA with 316 strikeouts, 120 walks, 158 hits, 74 runs and 60 earned runs allowed, and has a .176 opponent batting average.

Southern Miss hits .225 (198-for-881) with 118 RBI, 128 runs, 37 doubles, three triples and 17 home runs, and has a .331 slugging percentage and a .292 on-base percentage with 64 walks. The Golden Eagles have a 4.29 team ERA with 154 strikeouts, 130 walks, 257 hits, 186 runs, and 138 earned runs allowed and a .278 opponent batting average.

Tulsa is led in hitting by sophomore center fielder Caitlin Everett who is hitting .378 (45-for-119) with 20 runs, 14 RBI, a .437 slugging percentage and a .444 OBP. Sophomore shortstop Samantha Cobb hits .325 (37-for-114) with 27 RBI, 19 runs, eight doubles, three homers, 13 walks, a .474 slugging percentage and a .389 OBP. Senior first baseman Kelly Chapman is hitting .316 (25-for-79) with 12 RBI, 17 runs, six doubles, two homers a .468 slugging percentage and a .415 on-base percentage. Junior second baseman Skylar Swanson hits .300 (24-for-80) with eight doubles, five homers, 22 RBI and 17 runs scored, along with a .588 slugging percentage and a .406 OBP.

In the circle, freshman Aimee Creger is 14-1 with a 0.88 ERA in 103.0 innings, and has allowed 36 hits, 17 runs and 13 earned runs, with 163 strikeouts and 46 walks. Sophomore Lacey Middlebrooks is 8-4 with a 2.25 ERA in 71.2 innings, and has allowed 58 hits, 30 runs and 23 earned runs, with 58 strikeouts and 43 walks. Senior Jordan Kinard is 7-4 with a 2.08 ERA and has allowed 64 hits, 27 runs and 24 earned runs, with 95 strikeouts and 31 walks in 80.2 innings.

Tulsa and Southern Miss have played 18 times; TU leads the series, 12-6. Tulsa won two of three games last season in Hattiesburg. The Golden Hurricane has won two out of three games in four of the last five seasons, and earned a sweep at home in 2009. The Hurricane is 11-4 vs. the Golden Eagles since 2006, and 5-1 in Tulsa since 2006.
