Softball Closes Regular Season at UTEP

The Golden Hurricane closes the regular season at UTEP this weekend.

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa softball team closes the regular season with a three-game Conference USA series at UTEP, playing a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. CT, and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m. CT at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.

Tulsa (38-12, 16-5 C-USA) is tied for first place in the C-USA standings with Houston, and with three wins, can claim at least a share of the conference championship. Live video via Hurricane Vision and live stats via Gametracker for all three games will be available at www.TulsaHurricane.com.

Tulsa is hitting .278 (360-for-1294) with 185 RBI, 211 runs, 61 doubles, six triples and 25 home runs, and has a .393 slugging percentage and a .346 on-base percentage with 129 walks. The Hurricane has a 1.76 team ERA with 399 strikeouts, 146 walks, 218 hits, 103 runs and 85 earned runs allowed, and has a .182 opponent batting average.

UTEP (16-34-1, 1-19-1 C-USA) hits .265 (346-for-1305) with 184 RBI, 218 runs, 65 doubles, eight triples and 34 home runs, and has a .405 slugging percentage and a .345 on-base percentage with 135 walks. The Miners have a 6.09 team ERA with 224 strikeouts, 228 walks, 422 hits, 338 runs, and 273 earned runs allowed and a .320 opponent batting average.

Tulsa is led in hitting by sophomore center fielder Caitlin Everett who is hitting .389 (61-for-157) with 29 runs, 16 RBI, a .439 slugging percentage and a .455 OBP. Sophomore shortstop Samantha Cobb hits .336 (51-for-152) with 36 RBI, 26 runs, 12 doubles, three homers, 15 walks, a .474 slugging percentage and a .387 OBP. Senior first baseman Kelly Chapman is hitting .321 (35-for-109) with 18 RBI, 24 runs, nine doubles, four homers, a .514 slugging percentage and a .405 on-base percentage.

In the circle, freshman Aimee Creger is 20-2 with a 0.90 ERA in 155.0 innings, and has allowed 63 hits, 25 runs and 20 earned runs, with 217 strikeouts and 60 walks. Senior Jordan Kinard is 8-6 with a 2.38 ERA and has allowed 77 hits, 36 runs and 33 earned runs, with 110 strikeouts and 37 walks in 97.0 innings. Sophomore Lacey Middlebrooks is 10-4 with a 2.62 ERA in 85.1 innings, and has allowed 78 hits, 42 runs and 32 earned runs, with 72 strikeouts and 49 walks.

Tulsa and UTEP have played 24 times. Tulsa leads the series, 19-5. The Golden Hurricane won two of three games last season in Tulsa, and UTEP won once in a pre-conference tournament. The Hurricane swept the Miners in El Paso in 2009, including a win in the C-USA tournament title game. TU has won each of the last four series with UTEP, dating back to 2007. Tulsa is 12-4 against the Miners since 2006, and 6-1 in El Paso.
