Softball Plays at FAU "Strike Out Cancer" Tournament

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa softball team plays at the Florida Atlantic "Strike Out Cancer" Tournament Friday through Sunday at the FAU Softball Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.
The Golden Hurricane (5-2) begins Friday morning with games against Loyola Marymount (7-3) at 8 a.m. CT and Florida International (6-4) at 10 a.m. CT. TU plays Saturday evening against Florida A&M (2-7) at 5 p.m. CT and FAU (1-9) at 7 p.m. CT. The Hurricane closes the weekend against Michigan State (1-7) at noon CT Sunday. Tulsa is led by junior shortstop Samantha Cobb, who hits .500 with eight RBI, four home runs and 10 runs scored. She has a .517 on-base percentage and a .964 slugging percentage. Junior catcher Cassidy Bowen hit .364 with three runs and two RBI, while senior second baseman Skylar Swanson hits .350 with a home run and five RBI, a .550 slugging percentage and a .480 on-base percentage.
Junior Lacey Middlebrooks leads the Tulsa pitching staff with a 21 record and a 0.7 1ERA in three starts and 19.2 innings pitched. She has allowed 16 his, eight runs, two earned runs, with 17 strikeouts and 15 walks. Sophomore Aimee Creger (1-1) has a 3.68 ERA, allowing 15 hits, 11 runs, 15 walks and 11 strikeouts.
Tulsa is hitting .294 as team (60-for-204) with 42 runs, 35 RBI, six doubles, eight home runs, a .451 slugging percentage and a .391 on-base percentage. The TU pitchers have a 2.62 ERA, allowing 53 hits, 36 runs, 18 earned runs, 34 walks and 31 strikeouts.
Tulsa and Loyola Marymount have played 11 times; LMU leads the series, 10-4. The two schools played four games each year from 2000-02 as members of the WAC. TU went 1-3 in 2000 at LMU, 0-4 in 2001 at home, and 3-1 in the 2002 home-and-home series.
Tulsa and FIU have played three times; TU leads the series, 2-1. Tulsa and FAU have played three times; FAU leads the series, 2-1. All three meetings between the Golden Hurricane and each of the two South Florida schools came in 2005. TU played two road games and a neutral site game against each team.
Tulsa and Michigan State have played twice; the series is tied, 1-1. The schools last met in 2005, a 3-1 MSU win. The Hurricane defeated the Spartans, 10-5 in 2001. Both were played at a neutral site. This will be the first meeting between Tulsa and Florida A&M.
