Tulsa-Marshall Post-Game Quotes

Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik

Opening Statement:

"Great game for us. Build a lead, knock our own fans out of the game to start the second half and then do a great job of getting them back into it. Jordan Clarkson is really becoming a great player, and making a great name for himself. I thought Tim Peete played terrific. We did a terrific job rebounding. They average 16 offensive rebounds a game in conference and we hold them to 11, and everyone was a part of that. That was the big part of the game - rebounding, rebounding, rebounding and our guys really responded.

They were really physical with Steven underneath. Your assessment of Steven's play:

"It was terrific. Ten days ago he misses his free throws down the stretch against Central Florida, and makes all 10. To start the game, you see right away how they're going to play in the post when we go into Kodi. Right then, we made it a point to go there. Give our guys credit we scored 79 points. I'm pretty excited about that with the balance between inside play and perimeter play.

Three weeks ago SMU hit that last second shot, did you think this seven-game winning streak was in the works:

"I can't say that. I just knew that we would be in every game. Because we've been in every game all year, except for one. I take it a game at a time - how do we practice, are we healthy, has the flu hit us yet. Fortunately, we've been able to stay healthy. Players have gotten better. Eric McClellan is now an experiences freshman. Jordan Clarkson now knows he can finish games in a big way. Tim Peete did a great job tonight with two three's. We couldn't predict this. I just knew we'd have a chance to win every game.

What does it mean to tie Coach Clarence Iba for most wins:

"To be honest it's really more important to be 7-2 right now. But it does mean a lot. I know what the Iba name means - the family. I respect it. I've always wanted to try to build something here. I think it will mean more to me later. I've had good players. Three players in the top 9 all-time in scoring , with a fourth well on his way to being a top five player if he stays healthy. We have the leading shot-blocker in school history. I'm just proud of those guys, and the fact the come back and keep in touch, and help me with our current team. It means something, but I give credit to the players for believing in us."

Tulsa Senior Center Steven Idlet

On how it feels to be on a seven-game win streak:

"It's a great feeling. There's probably nothing better to get another win at home in front of the fans. We've been off for a week and Marshall is a really tough team, especially on the glass. We talked about it all week that it was going to be a big battle. This feels really good to be able to execute the game plan and come out on top."

On his 10-for-10 effort from the free-throw line:

"Just practice and getting there early helped me a little bit. Getting there early and making those first two gave me a little confidence. Carrying that over into the second half was big."

On Jordan Clarkson's two shots late in the game:

"I have never seen anything like that. Those were really impressive shots. That was nice. It wasn't just the shot clock running down, but the game clock was also running down and we had to get a bucket. Those were big shots. That was really impressive."

Tulsa Sophomore Guard Jordan Clarkson

On how it feels to be on a seven-game win streak:

"It does feel good, but we can't be satisfied. We have to get back and get into practice and work hard like we have been. That's the reason why we're here now. We have to keep playing hard."

On his two shots down the stretch that helped seal the win:

"Coach put me in that situation. I feel like that's my role now is finishing games. I just have to make those shots when they count."

Marshall Head Coach Tom Herrion

Opening Statement

"First, I'd like to congratulate coach Wojcik on tying coach Iba. That's a great testament to his success over time here at Tulsa. Congratulations to Doug on that. Obviously, I was a little disappointed with our defense. I didn't think we defended or rebounded like we have to and need to and that we should. Let a team shoot 55 percent from the floor and then we get out-rebounded which doesn't happen very often. That's obviously the tell-tale of the game in my opinion. That really spoke for it. They're obviously a good team playing at a high level right now and on a roll. But we have to play a lot better I a lot of areas as we move forward.

Did you expect this kind of game with Tulsa on a roll:

"They've been playing really well lately. They have momentum. They've settled into a rotation now with some guys and getting some production from different guys. Peete had a career night tonight. He comes off the bench and gives them a great jolt. IU thought he was terrific off the bench. They got to the foul line way too many times against us, but they're playing well at a high level right now."
