Basketball Seeks to Avenge Earlier Loss at TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Tulsa men's basketball team is looking to even the score this season against TCU when the Golden Hurricane and Horned Frogs collide at 11 a.m. Saturday at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

In an unusual occurrence, the nonconference foes Hurricane (4-7) and Horned Frogs (7-3) are meeting for the second time this season, as TCU took a 72-65 win at the Great Alaska Shootout back on Nov. 29.

The contest will be televised by Fox Sports Southwest Plus, which can be found on Cox Cable Ch. 68/715 in Tulsa. The game can also be heard on the Hurricane Radio Network, KRMG AM 740/102.3 FM in Tulsa, and network affiliates.

Sophomore guard James Woodard leads Tulsa in scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Rashad Smith scores 12.5 points with 5.4 rebounds per game, and sophomore guard Shaquille Harrison averages 10.7 points and 3.8 assists per contest. Senior guard Pat Swilling Jr. averages 9.2 points per contest. Sophomore forward D'Andre Wright averages 6.5 points, sophomore guard Rashad Ray scores 4.7 points with 2.6 assists and Lew Evans scores 5.5 points per outing. The Golden Hurricane averages 73.4 points and 34.4 rebounds per game, shooting .434 from the field. Hurricane opponents average 75.5 points and 37.5 rebounds, while shooting .441 from the field.

TCU is led by Kyan Anderson, who averages 15.2 points and 5.2 assists per game, and by Jarvis Ray, who averages 12.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Brandon Parrish adds 9.4 points, and Karviar Shepherd leads the team with 9.2 rebounds, and scores 8.1 points per outing. The Horned Frogs average 69.6 points and 34.4 rebounds per game, shooting .437 from the field. TCU opponents average 66.7 points and 35.7 rebounds per game, shooting .404 from the field.

This is the 34th meeting between Tulsa and TCU. Tulsa leads the series, 22-11. The teams have played home-and-home in each of the last three years, and the Golden Hurricane has won three of those four meetings. TU won the last contest played in Fort Worth, 74-66, in 2011. The Hurricane won last season in Tulsa, 50-49, and 69-66 in Tulsa in 2010. The Hurricane has won five of six in the series, dating back to 2002 when the schools were members of the Western Athletic Conference. Prior to their victory earlier this season, the Horned Frogs last win against TU was a 93-87 victory in 2001. The teams played each year from 1997-2003. Tulsa won 12 of the 16 games played during that stretch. The Hurricane is 7-6 all-time against TCU in Fort Worth.
