BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Tulsa's series finale at UAB on Sunday was called in the fifth inning due to rain. The game was not official at the time it was stopped, and statistics from the contest will not be counted.
To be recorded as an official game, teams must complete five innings of play, or four and a half innings if the home team is leading. The Golden Hurricane (35-4, 10-1 C-USA) and the Blazers (23-16, 9-5 C-USA) split the Conference USA series after each winning a game in Saturday's doubleheader. TU won the opener 2-1, and UAB took the second game 4-2.
Sunday, Tulsa was leading 7-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when the game was called. UAB scored a run in the bottom of the first on a solo home run by Kristen McGrath. The Hurricane exploded for seven runs in the top of the fifth frame. Julie Kernen and Catherine Horner each hit two-run doubles to put Tulsa ahead 4-1. Shelby Blanton then doubled home a run, and Haley Henshaw and Jill Barrett each hit RBI singles to make the score 7-1. UAB has runners on first and second to begin the bottom of the fifth when play was stopped.
The Golden Hurricane plays at Arkansas at 6 p.m. Wednesday, before returning home to play host to East Carolina next weekend, April 12-13.
