TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa senior guard James Woodard earned the first American Athletic Conference Player of the Week of the 2015-16 season, the league office announced Monday.
Woodard, a native of Arcadia, Okla., scored 23 points, and tallied four assists, four steals and four rebounds to lead Tulsa to a 98-81 season-opening win over Central Arkansas on Saturday. He made 5-of-7 3-pointers and shot 8-for-13 from the field, shooting .615 from the field and .714 from beyond the arc in the game. He scored seven straight points early in the second half as part of a 17-2 run that gave the Hurricane a 16-point lead.
This is Woodard's third American Athletic Conference Player of the Week award. He earned the honor twice last year.
The Golden Hurricane returns to action Tuesday, when it plays host to No. 10 Wichita State at 7 p.m. at the Reynolds Center.
