LUBBOCK, Texas - Julie Kernen had four RBI, and Jodi Edmiston and Erica Sampson each drove in three runs to lead Tulsa past Mississippi Valley State, 18-3 (5 inn.) Texas Tech, 11-1 (5 inn.) Friday afternoon at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic at Rocky Johnson Field.
Edmiston and Sampson tallied three RBI in the win over MVSU, and Kernen drove in four runs on a pair of two-run home runs to lead the Golden Hurricane (14-7) past Texas Tech.
Against MVSU, seven players in the Golden Hurricane lineup scored twice, including each of the top six, and five batters drove in at least two runs. Junior Caitlin Sill (4-3) pitched a complete game with six strikeouts to earn the victory.
Senior Bailey Erwin (7-3) struck out six batters and allowed four hits in a complete-game win for Tulsa against Texas Tech (13-15). Kaitlin Allen went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs, Shelby Estocado drove in two runs, and Brittany Walker scored twice.
Tulsa scored three runs in the first inning, six in the second, two in the third inning, and seven runs in the fifth inning against MVSU. Allen hit a two-run double in the second inning, and Edmiston and Maddie Withee delivered a pair of two-run doubles in the seventh inning.
Nine of Tulsa's 11 runs against Texas Tech came on home runs. Kernen launched homers in the first and fourth innings, Estocado hit a two-run homer in the second, Allen followed with a two-run shot in the third, and Jocelyn Sheffield hit a solo shot in the fifth for the Hurricane.
The Golden Hurricane plays Texas Tech at 3 p.m. and MVSU at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
