LECANTO, Fla. - The American Athletic Conference Championships at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Fla. wrapped up Monday afternoon where the Golden Hurricane finished in eighth place with a 54-hole total of 883. Three of the Tulsa golfers finished in the top-30 individuals, led by Matthew Marquez who tied for 17th-place at 217, just one stroke over par.
Marquez fought hard to maintain his standing, sinking four birdies on 13, 15, 7 and 9 to remain at even-par 72 in the final round. He finished in 17th-place.
Senior Matt Mabrey turned in a round of 74 Monday to finish tied for 25th-place at 221 after birdies on 9 and 14. Sebastian Smith carded rounds of 78-72-73 for 223 total and tying for 30th-place. Francisco Yanez finished with 228 and Colton Staggs with 231.
No. 18 USF (837) took home the team championship behind the individual medalist Ryan Fricker (205). No. 29 SMU came in second (850) with UCF rounding out the top-three at 856.
