The J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest is a 5,000 square foot facility for the rowing team, the first boat storage facility specifically dedicated to the needs of the varsity rowers at TU.
 
The location is a short 15 minute drive from campus and it allows TU access to one of the best waterways for rowing in the United States on the Verdigris River.  The Verdigris River is part of the Mississippi River watershed and sports a natural setting of 18 miles distance for the TU Women's Rowing Team to practice.  The J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest was completed in January 2007.

Directions to the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest from The University of Tulsa campus:

  1. Go North on Harvard.
  2. Take I-244 East, which turns into I-44 East.
  3. Exit 241 onto 66 East toward Catoosa/Claremore
  4. After approximately four miles, turn right into Rogers Point Park.
  5. Follow the road straight toward the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest.

The boathouse joins the 6,500 square foot Jack Zink Indoor Rowing Center, which is located on campus at TU. 
 
The Zink Center, named in honor of Tulsa businessman and philanthropist, the late Jack Zink, is Tulsa's on campus home and includes space for locker rooms, coaches' offices, and an ergometer room capable of supporting the entire team practicing at one time. Additionally, the Zink Center has an eight-station indoor rowing tank, which is used for training novices, doing individual and technical practices, and winter training. The Zink Center was completed in March 2006.
