Softball Falls to Hofstra in Weekend Finale

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Tulsa softball team dropped a 4-2 decision to Hofstra Sunday to conclude the FAU Kick-Off Classic at FAU Stadium.

The Golden Hurricane (3-2) also fell to the host FAU, 1-0, late Saturday night. Tulsa defeated Wright State, 2-1, and Hofstra, 6-3, on Friday, and Penn State, 11-4, Saturday afternoon.

Sunday, Hofstra took a 4-0 lead, scoring single runs in the second, fourth, fifth and seventh innings. The Hurricane scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Kaitlin Allen walked, and Maggie Withee, who was 2-for-3 in the game, singled to put runners at the corners. Allen scored when Julia Hollingsworth reached on an error, and Withee scored on Rylie Spell's sacrifice fly.

Sophomore Emily Watson (1-1) pitched six innings and struck out seven, while allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks. Freshman Ellie Reaves tossed the final frame. TU tallied five hits and committed three errors, leading to three unearned runs, while the Pride (3-2) tallied five hits and two errors.

Saturday night, FAU pitcher Kylee Hanson no-hit the Hurricane with no walks in a 1-0 win. Tulsa's only baserunner was catcher Catherine Horner, who reached on an error. The Owls scored their only run on an error in the second inning.

Senior Caitlin Sill (1-1) struck out five batters, walked none, and allowed six hits. She stranded runners in scoring position in three frames, including a runner at third base in the first inning.

The Golden Hurricane returns to action next weekend at the UTSA Classic in San Antonio. TU opens the weekend with two games on Friday, against Virginia at 10 a.m., and North Dakota at 12:30 p.m.
